Damian Tsutsumida was born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1979 and raised in Orange County, California. Growing up in a nontraditional Japanese American household placed him slightly outside the frame of what was considered ordinary. That position found its natural expression in photography, a practice shaped early by his father, Bryant Tsutsumida, a photographer and his greatest professional influence. Damian founded his architectural photography practice in 2002, focused primarily on land development and homebuilding. That same year he joined the part-time faculty at The School of Photography at Orange Coast College.

In 2021, the pandemic prompted a moment of honest recalibration from the demand and exhaustion of commercial photography. He made the decision to return to school to complete what he had started decades ago, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2025 with a BFA in Photography from Arizona State University. Returning to school as a working professional was a decision rooted in balance, and one he wanted his daughter to witness.

Architectural Advertising Photography is defined by precision, intent, and previsualization. His personal work abandons this formality in order to reveal individual truth with each viewer. His current series, Consequence, examines the byproduct of the built environment through religious motifs, forgotten structures, and the slow dissolution of conviction from lived experience.
